Today-Challenging

The beginning pages of Chapters 3 and 4 of my thesis had blank UTLA post-its on them, so I had to send another copy of my thesis to IMM today.

I was able to get mac mail to work, finally. I need to transfer my pictures file to LaCie, but I'm saving that for tomorrow. I emptied the trash and freed up enough space to upgrade three software programs.

Ready chewed through his lunge leash while I was holding him and Husky and talking to a neighbor. He looked at me, walked away, looked back when I called, then trotted off. I took Husky back to the condo, got into my car, and tried to track Ready down. No such luck, so I went to the Sheriff.

After reporting a description of Ready to the Sheriff, I returned home to find him lying on the porch with the doors closed so that he could not get in. When I drove up, he came sheepishly to the car.

It was a difficult day, but we made progress in many ways.

Thesis Finished

At 11:45 a.m. today, Printonyx emailed it to me and the International Ministry of Metaphysics, in PDF format. I am so relieved that it is done. I have the original and two hard copies.

I rearranged the living room and created a 2' x 4' pen for Ready. He seems to be enjoying it. He's fast asleep. After Husky's walk, I took Ready out again.

Roger and Pat called when we were a block from where they were staying. We walked over and met them. I have not talked to Dori, but I left a message on her phone.

Today's To-Do List

I already walked the dogs, brought in the black crate from the car, set it up in the bedroom, ate oatmeal & golden raisins, and drank coffee. I'm caught up on my email.

I want to deliver the acceptance form for substituting next year and organize my Ph.D. thesis materials. Since I got up at 4 a.m., I also want to take a nap. The dogs are napping and the skies look like rain, so now might be a good time. 6:55 a.m.

Income Tax Help

After exhausting myself referencing forms and publications, I spoke with the FTB, IRS, and Social Security Administration. I learned that for California, I need to file a 540-NR, since I was in Washington State from June-September 2009. For those months, I will not have to California income tax.

Husky has been on 3 walks; Ready has been on 4. We'll all walk again when it's cooler, perhaps around 7 p.m.

I shopped for eggs, tomatoes and bananas in order to save time and costs.

Soon, I'll make reservations for Tuesday at La Quinta in Sacramento and Wednesday for New Frontier in Eugene, Oregon. We'll pick up Jolie at SEA-TAC at five p.m. on Thursday.

Ready's Playpen

Ready has adjusted well to his dog run. He enjoys being outside. He slept in the living room playpen for a while this a.m. Now, Husky is inside. He thought he was going in to steal Ready's tennis ball, but I captured him instead. :)

Victory

Husky, Ready and I went to Egret Park today. All went well. Ready is riding better in the car but still panting a lot. I looked into a cooling pad for him to lie on, but I think I will rely upon wet bandanas around the dogs' necks.

Ready can now lie down on his mat beside me and go up and down the hall without running and sliding on the runners. He and Husky steal each others toys, and they want to play rougher than I can stand, so I intervene, take the toy, and throw it outside for Ready. The backyard fence still is not fixed, so I can only let Ready play in the side yard.

It was 82 today, so as we walked, we looked for trees with shade. Tomorrow, we shall return to Egret Park.

2009 taxes

For the first time, I'm filing income tax in 'retirement.' I have two W-2s, but I also have 1099-Rs. I have a lot of work ahead of me today if I am to understand what I need to do.
